History
We
have had wonderful discussions this week about some key facts about
Greece: city-states, democracy, and Solon's famous quote "in a good state, people obey the magistrates, and the magistrate obeys the law." Next week, we will learn about the similarities and differences between two famous city-states:Athens and
Sparta.
Science
We
will learn more about the insect life cycle including complete and incomplete metamorphosis. Students will learn that a butterfly's life cycle is dramatic different from a grasshopper through a delightful reader's theater.
Literature
Students will read the last of the classic, The Cricket in Times Square. Chester becomes wildly popular drawing a crowd and business to the newsstand. The Bellinis are grateful for the income but Chester find the fame oppressive. He decides to return to the countryside much to his friends dismay.
Grammar
Students will practice writing based on passages from The Borrowers by Mary Norton. Through this writing, students will discover contractions as a way of shortening common word phrases in the English language. They will then practice forming contractions and using them in their speech and writing.
Math
Students will review cm., m., in., ft., and yd. before demonstrating their mastery over the measurement concepts we have learned about. We will then review all unit1-3 concepts including place value, number patterns, addition and subtraction with renaming, word problems, and measurement. On Thursday, we will begin our next unit on multiplication!
