We had a fabulous time on our field trip today! We learned about instruments from several Asian countries, had a fun drum circle experience, and enjoyed some recess time at a nearby playground. Ask your child about “Strawberry”, “Chocolate Chip”, and “Vanilla” drumming!

If your student’s costume request has been approved, they may wear their costume to school. We recommend shoes that are safe for recess. We will have some instructional time, as usual, but will also listen to each student speak about the character they chose. Volunteer Opportunities

Reading Group Volunteers: There are still openings for reading group
leaders. Each shift needs four volunteers on Tuesdays and some Thursdays. Please see the link on the side bar to sign up.
· At-Home Projects: If anyone is interested in doing projects at home (folding, cutting, gluing, or assembly) please let us know. We need to prepare a science booklet this week.
Academics
History
We will continue to explore the civilization of Ancient India, and students will end the unit by completing a Diwali craft on Friday.
Science
This week students will create clouds in a vase and simulate precipitation to predict what will happen as the water reaches the ground. We will review the water cycle of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation before taking a short quiz.
Literature
Students will focus on fluency, including stopping at end marks, pausing at commas, and using pitch to emphasize questions and express emotion. We will read and discuss The Emperor’s New Clothes and Beauty and the Beast. Please send in your student’s copy of The Cricket in Times Square when they return from Fall Break.
Grammar
Students will review and then the be tested on the following Grammar elements: Nouns, Action Verbs, Linking Verbs, and Helping Verbs.
Math
We will practice adding more than two numbers, and have an assessment on addition with renaming. “Ten Ones, I hereby declare you – One Ten!”
Spalding
This week students will have Spalding homework on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday only.
